Co2 Laser Scar Treatment
Scars can be a massive mental hurdle for some, creating difficulties every single day. At Pure by Alpha Dermatology, we take great pride in understanding how crucial scar treatment can be for a patient, helping solve years of stress and anxiety. Quality of life is a major component of why we operate out two locations in New Hope and Sellersville; if we can change one person’s experience, it’s worth the decades of hard work.
CO2 Laser Treatment is an advanced way to reduce or minimize scarring and scar tissue from traumatic scars, surgical scars, and burns, offering a path to improve your quality of life.

What Is Co2 Laser Scar Treatment
CO2 Laser Treatment in Bucks County, Pennsylvania is a modern practice to help improve both deep scarring and surface imperfections. Our team uses small “microbeams” that penetrate far beneath the skin towards difficult-to-treat scar tissue, stimulating the body to produce new, healthier collagen, which is vital to the healing of all scars. Many of our patients also opt for additional CO2 Laser Treatment to the surface of the skin that corrects color imperfections that could occur with the skin’s surface texture.
What are the Benefits of Co2 Laser Scar Treatment?
CO2 Scar Laser Treatment can offer numerous advantages to skin issues, from visible signs of aging and sun damage to scars and skin cancer. We specialize in this top-of-the-line treatment specifically to enhance an array of scar tissue. Benefits from CO2 Scar Laser Treatment for patients with burn and scaring include:
- Hypertrophic Burn Scars
- Keloid scar treatment
- Pruritus (itching) relief
- Restricted range of motion
- Contracture relief (a condition of shortening and hardening of muscles)
In addition, the CO2 lasers can also improve:
- Deep wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Fine lines
- Uneven skin tone and texture

Co2 Laser Scar Treatment
If you find yourself dealing with the aftermath of physical and mental pain from a scar, you may be the perfect candidate for CO2 Scar Laser Treatment in Pennsylvania. This procedure is an excellent treatment for many scars, from mild cosmetic issues to deeper scars that seriously affect your daily life. It can be used not only on the face but on other areas of the body. It should be noted that people with high pain tolerance levels are ideal candidates for CO2 laser resurfacing. Other treatments might be more comfortable but may not be as effective as laser resurfacing.

What’s the first step?
Let’s take the first step together, starting with a consultation. This appointment will take place at one of our two premier locations in New Hope or Sellersville, in which you will meet with a provider who will examine your skin target area or the scar you look to have treated. Our team cannot wait to start the conversation on how CO2 Scar Laser Treatment can enhance your skin dramatically, offering a new fresh perspective and confidence to match your radiant skin. During the consultation, we will provide instructions to help you prepare for treatment. Depending on your medical history, pre-care typically involves:
- Avoiding tanning or heavy sun exposure
- Not using medications that cause sun sensitivity
- Taking antiviral medication for a few days before and after treatment if you have a history of herpes or shingles
- Quitting smoking for 2 weeks before and after treatment

What to Expect on the Day of Co2 Laser Scar Treatment
With most of all questions and concerns aimed to be answered upon consultation, we reserve the beginning of your CO2 Scar Laser Treatment to help you feel as comfortable and confident as possible. This is an outpatient treatment that generally takes between thirty minutes to two hours, depending on the issue being addressed and the area of skin receiving treatment. A combination of local anesthetic and sometimes a sedative will be used to prevent pain and help you relax. For extensive resurfacing, you may receive general anesthesia for the treatment.
Our technicians will then begin the process by using pulses of laser light on your target area/scar. These beams penetrate the skin’s surface, where water in the skin cells will start to absorb them. During this state, the epidermis, or the surface layer of your skin, starts to vaporize. The dermis or middle layer starts to heat up, stimulating the growth of new collagen fibers. As the area heals, new, firmer, smoother skin replaces the old layers.
This process takes absolute precision, which makes our Aesthetic team a valuable source for the treatment. We use decades of experience so the treatment won’t affect the rest of the skin nearby.
Once complete, an antibacterial ointment and nonstick dressing can be applied to the treated skin. You will usually leave this on for 24 hours.
Co2 Laser Scar Treatment Recovery
We have found that it typically takes one to two weeks for our patients to recover from CO2 Scar Laser Treatment. Naturally, your skin will feel raw for the first few days, somewhat like a sunburn, with minor itching, stinging, and peeling.
Once a week passes, your skin will start to dry out and peel; this is natural to the process. You will begin to notice that the skin beneath may have a pink appearance that will gradually take on your skin color in the months to follow.
Here are some tips to assist in the recovery process:
- Avoid rubbing, picking, or scratching the treated area
- Cleanse 2-5 times a day with saline or vinegar solution
- Apply an ice pack wrapped in a clean, soft towel
- Sleep with your head elevated to help with swelling
- Once healed, apply sunscreen formulated for sensitive skin every time you go outside
